SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's basketball team saw all five starters score in double figures in a 76-59 non-conference win over Dowling College Friday night at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium. It was the season-opener for both teams
Junior guard
Janek Schmidkunz (Berlin, Germany) scored a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the field with five threes to lead the Yellow Jackets. He also tallied four assists, three rebounds and three steals. Senior guard
Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) poured in 18 points with four rebounds, four assists and two steals, while junior center
David Campbell (Boston, Mass.) registered a double-double with 17 points and 10 boards to go with four blocked shots. He was 6-of-10 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the line.
Junior point guard
Spencer Braithwaite (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 11 points with a game-high eight assists, three rebounds and two steals. Fellow junior guard
Jason Perrier (Bridgeport, Conn.) just missed a double-double, netting 10 points and pulling down eight rebounds.
Senior guard Josh Malone (Deer Park, N.Y.) scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Golden Lions, while junior guard Leon Taylor (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) added nine points with three boards. Junior forward Justin Alexander (Staten Island, N.Y.) and junior guard Corwin Austin (Brooklyn. N.Y.) each contributed eight points and five rebounds.
AIC only trailed a couple times in the opening stages of the game and took the lead for good with a 7-0 run that put them ahead 16-10 seven minutes in. The Yellow Jackets led 37-29 at the break and opened the second half with a 10-1 run to open up a 17-point advantage, 47-30.
Dowling managed to pull back within ten, trailing 64-54 with 3:58 remaining in the game, before the Yellow Jackets went on a 8-1 burst to extend their lead back to 17 and put the game away.
AIC will return to action Wednesday, November 14, when they host a Northeast-10 contest against Assumption College at 7:30 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium.
