Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Perfect PK leads AIC over Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, Conn. - The American International College men's ice hockey team (3-4-1, 0-2-1 AHA) killed five out of five penalties to earn a 2-1 win over the Quinnipiac Bobcats (3-3-1, 0-0-0 ECACHL) at the TD Bank Sports Center. Quinnipiac is receiving votes in both national polls this week.

After a scoreless first frame, the Yellow Jackets got on the board early in the second when sophomore right wing Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Colo.) poked a puck away in the offensive zone to sophomore center Alexander MacMillan (Calgary, Alb.), who threw a pass out front to freshman left wing Chris Porter (Stoufville, Ont.) who banged two shots on the net, pushing the second in at 6:49 of the period for his second goal of the year.

Then, in the third, shortly after junior defenseman Nick Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.) pulled a puck off of the AIC goal line, sophomore center Brandon Fagerheim (Calgary, Alb.) broke up the ice on a three-on-two, dishing a pass to senior right wing Richard Leitner (Los Alamitos, Calif.), who then made a play across the slot to sophomore left wing Matt Cassidy (London, Ont.) who fired a one-timer home for his first of the year at 11:10.

That goal would prove to be the difference; Quinnipiac got on the board just 2:24 later when junior center Ben Arnt (Oakdale, Minn.) connected on a cross-ice pass to sophomore right wing Jordan Samuels-Thomas (Windsor, Conn.), who took a shot that was tipped into the top corner of the net by senior defenseman Mike Dalhuisen (Nymegen, Holland) to make it 2-1.

Overall, AIC's defense blocked 28 shot attempts, and senior goalkeeper Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) stopped 39 of 40 shots to improve to 2-4-1 on the year; on the other side, freshman Michael Garteig (Prince George, B.C.) stopped 15 of 17 shots in the loss, falling to 0-1-0 on the year.

AIC will next play next Friday, November 16, when they host the Bentley Falcons at the Olympia Ice Center for a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey contest.
