WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA—The American International College men's ice hockey team (2-4-1, 0-2-1 AHA) dropped a 3-0 decision at the Olympia Ice Center against their conference foe, the RIT Tigers (2-4-1, 1-1-1 AHA) tonight.
RIT got on the board first, scoring on a power play. Junior left wing Mike Colavecchia (Maple, ON) wired a puck that found the far top corner of the net for his first of the year at 11:24; the assists on the goal went to senior defenseman Chris Saracino (St. Louis, MO) and sophomore center Matt Garbowsky (St. George, ON).
The Tigers extended the lead to 2-0 later in the frame when junior center Ben Lynch (Blaine, MN) won a draw to senior left wing Jeff Smith (Spokane, WA) who crossed a pass to junior right wing Adam Mitchell (Crofton, MD) that was tipped into the goal at 17:38. The goal was Mitchell's fourth of the year.
Saracino would score the only tally of the middle period, blasting a slapshot on a set play on an offensive zone draw won by sophomore center Anthony Hamburg (Phoenix, AZ) to junior defenseman Eliot Raibl (Vancouver, BC). It was Saracino's second of the year, and came at 9:53 mark of the frame, and ended the scoring.
In goal for AIC, senior goalkeeper
Ben Meisner (Halifax, NS) stopped 33 of 36 shots in the loss, falling to 1-4-1 on the season; opposing him, junior goalkeeper Josh Watson (Lititz, PA) kept all 19 shots out of the net, improving to 2-2-0 on the year with the win.
AIC will next travel to ECAC foe Quinnipiac for a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at 7:00 PM in Hamden, CT.
