BUFFALO, New York—The American International College men's hockey team (3-5-3, 0-3-3 AHA) earned a 1-1 draw against the Canisius Golden Griffins (2-6-4, 1-2-2 AHA) in a matinee game.
AIC scored the first goal of the game on the power play as junior center
Blake Peake (Lethbridge, Alb.) made a pass to senior defenseman
Jeff Ceccacci (Placentia, Calif.) who found defense partner and junior left wing
Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, Mich.) for a one-timer that beat junior goalkeeper Tony Capobianco (Mississauga, Ont.) to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 advantage. It was Puskar's team-high fifth of the year, coming at 18:53 of the frame.
However, the Griffins would strike back with a power play tally of their own, as sophomore center Mitch McCrank (Haileybury, Ont.) and junior defenseman Ben Danford (Stillwater, Minn.) connected with junior right wing Kyle Gibbons (Westlake, Ohio) for his second of the year, a one timer from the slot that beat senior goalkeeper
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) high to the blocker side.
After that, Meisner was a wall. He made a huge number of spectacular saves to keep the game knotted up through the end of regulation and then the overtime, stopping 43 of 44 shots on goal to improve to 2-4-2 on the year, while Capobianco denied 21 of 22 shots in the loss, moving to 1-6-4 on the season.
The two teams will finish their weekend series Sunday at 4:05 PM.
