SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 Northeast-10 decision to UMass Lowell at Ronald J. Abdow field on Saturday afternoon. The River Hawks improve to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 3-15 overall and 2-8 in the NE-10.
Freshman forward Jenna Freitas (Manchester, N.H.) put UMass Lowell on the board at 19:16 in the first half off a pass from sophomore forward Bianca Jones (Watertown, Mass.). Freitas goal proved to be the only goal the River Hawks would need.
UMass Lowell made it a 2-0 contest at 28:09 in the first half when Rachel McCarthy found the back of the net. The River Hawks went on to score two more goals in the second half.
Junior goalie Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) made five saves in the win, while junior goalie 
Kori Huffman (Brattleboro, Vt.) stopped 16 in the loss.
UMass Lowell outshot AIC 26-7 and held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners.
