SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's basketball team shot just 28.8 percent (15-52) from the field as it dropped a 62-49 Northeast-10 contest to Merrimack College Saturday afternoon at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.
The Warriors improved to 9-8 overall and 6-7 in the Northeast-10 with the win, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 4-13 overall and 2-11 in conference play with their eighth straight setback.
Senior guard Wayne Mack (Paterson, N.J.) led all scorers with 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field with four threes for Merrimack. He also totaled five steals, four rebounds and two assists. Junior forward Mike Cliffford (Danvers, Mass.) posted a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 15 boards, while senior guard Roland Davis (Deer Park, N.Y.) chipped in with 11 points, six assists and five boards.

Janek Schmidkunz (Berlin, Germany) scored 15 points to lead AIC, while graduate guard
Sesoo Ikpah (Williamstown, N.J.) added 10 points with six rebounds, three assists and two steals.
The two teams played a virtually even first half as the Warriors took a 33-30 lead into the locker room at the break. They led by just one in the early stages of the second half before a six-point run from the Yellow Jackets gave them a 46-41 advantage at the 12:03 mark of the period.
AIC wouldn't score again until there was just 2:29 left in the game, allowing Merrimack to go on a 21-0 run to put the game away.
The Yellow Jackets will next host a Northeast-10 contest against Franklin Pierce University Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium.
