NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Senior forward
Thomas Denomme (North Smithfield, R.I.) scored both Yellow Jacket goals as the American International College men's soccer team recorded a 2-0 Northeast-10 victory at Merrimack College Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-4-1 overall and 1-3-0 in the NE-10 with their first conference win of the season. The Warriors fell to 4-2-2 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
The game was scoreless until the 37th-minute when Denomme found the back of the net from 25 yards out with assists from freshman back
Andreas Hauge (Stavanger, Norway) and
Miguel Rodriguez-Lapman (). He made it 2-0 when he placed a cross from junior midfielder
Conor Doyle (Douglas, Ilse of Man) into a wide open net in the 55th-minute.
Sophomore keeper
Jason Ryan (Peabody, Mass.) stopped all 10 Merrimack shots on goal to earn the shutout for AIC. Sophomore keeper Mattias Drummond (Partille, Sweden) had just two saves in taking the loss for the Warriors.
The Warriors outshot the Yellow Jackets 23-11 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.
AIC will next travel to the University of New Haven Wednesday for a 4 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
