SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College baseball team dropped both ends of a Northeast-10 doubleheader to No. 13/21 Franklin Pierce University Saturday afternoon at AIC Park by scores of 7-1 and 13-1.
The Ravens improved to 25-6 overall and 11-2 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 9-17 overall and 3-9 in conference play.
Franklin Pierce jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning of game one on a two-run homer off the bat of senior right fielder Mike Munoz (Bronx, N.Y.) and an RBI-single from sophomore shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.).
AIC got on the board with a solo shot from sophomore shortstop
Chris Amate (Hanover, Mass.) in the bottom of the fourth, but that was all the offense the Yellow Jackets would generate in the game.
Munoz finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored for the Ravens, while Mike Dowd went 3-for-4 wand launched a solo homer in the ninth.
Amate was 1-for-4 with the solo homer, while senior right fielder
Kyle McNiff (Westford, Mass.) was 2-for-3.
Freshman Steven Hathaway (Acton, Mass.) earned the decision after allowing one run on five hits with nine strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work, while junior
John Hanna (Dudley, Mass.) took the loss after allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits with four walks in 6.1 innings.
Franklin Pierce scored at least one run in all but two innings in game-two, including a four-run seventh that put the game out of reach for AIC.
Freshman center fielder Ross Lincoln (Woodstock, Conn.) went 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one driven in for the Ravens, while sophomore left fielder Nick LaCroix (Grafton, Mass.) went 4-for-4 with one double, one homerun, four RBIs and a run scored. Munoz went 2-for-4 with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Amate again went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in the fifth for the Yellow Jackets, marking his third consecutive game with a homerun, while freshman third baseman
Cam MacDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) went 2-for-3.
Junior Gregg Downing (Queens, N.Y.) fanned 10 batters while scattering seven hits over six innings to earn the decision for Franklin Pierce, while senior
Zach Bunszell (Medford, Mass.) allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings in taking the loss for AIC.
The Yellow Jackets will next travel to Bentley University next Saturday, April 16, for a Northeast-10 doubleheader. Game-one will begin at noon.
