Baseball Holds on for Split with UMass Lowell

Box Score- Game one, Box Score- Game Two

The American International College baseball team split a Northeast-10 conference doubleheader with UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon for a 3-1 victory in game one and a 7-0 loss in game two. The Yellow Jackets improve to 16-22 overall and 10-12 in conference play, while the River Hawks are now 33-8 so far this season, and 16-6 in the Northeast-10.

UMasll Lowell scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning when junior Matt Jacobs (Hudson, Mass.) doubled to center field and was plated by senior Sean burns (Colchester, VT) who hit a sacrifice fly to right field.

AIC tied the game in the third inning when senior Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass.) reached on an error by third base crossed home when senior Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) hit an RBI single to right field and advanced to second on the throw. Tranghese scored on MacDonald's RBI single to right field.

The Yellow Jackets added their last run of the game in the sixth inning as Tranghese tripled to right center and was played by senior catcher Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) who doubled to right field.

Tranghese was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RB.

Cam MacDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) earned the victory for AIC after pitching 7.2 innings and allowing only one run on 11 hits and striking out three, while sophomore Garrett Cole (Bedford, NH) took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits in 8.0 innings pitched and striking out 10 batters.

In game two- The River Hawks took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and did not look back from there. Junior Rob Noe (Lynnfield, Mass.) hit a two run single in the third inning to add to UMass Lowell's lead to make it a 6-0 contest going into the fourth inning.

Noe was 2-for-3 in the contest with two runs scored and three RBIs, while

Sophomore Vinny DePierro (Tewksbury, Mass.) earned the victory on the mound after pitching seven innings and only allowing four hits and striking out seven, while Daniel Guerrero took the loss after giving up six runs on five hits in four innings pitched.
