SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior first baseman
Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) delivered a two-out double to left center field with a runner on first to give the American International College baseball team a 8-7 victory over the College of Saint Rose on Friday afternoon at AIC Park.
The Yellow Jackets improve to 15-21 overall and 9-11 in conference play, while the Golden Knights dropped to 14-23 overall and 7-13 in the NE-10.
Saint Rose scored one run in both the first and second inning to take a 2-0 lead early in the game. Freshman Jevonte Osterhout (Albany, NY) singled up the middle in the first inning and was later plated my Keenan who hit a sacrifice fly to center field. In the second inning senior Nick Dowen (Stony Point, NY) hit an RBI doubled to left field and tagged out after he over rounded second base.
The Yellow Jackets tied the game in the bottom of the second off a two run shot over the left field fence by Fontaine. Four batters later AIC took a 4-2 lead when senior
Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) hit a two run double down the left field line.
The Golden Knights knotted the game at 4-4 in the third inning as sophomore Caleb Gleason (Watervliet, NY) hit a two run single up the middle. Saint Rose added another run in the sixth inning as junior Brandon Jones (Sacramento, CA) went the distance for a solo homerun over the right field fence.
Tranghese stepped up for the Yellow Jackets when he hit a three run homerun over the right field fence for the 5-7 lead. The Golden Knights were not going down without a fight as they put up two runs in the top of the ninth to push the contest into extra innings.
In the 10th inning MacDonald walked, while Fontaine hit a walk-off double to left center field to give AIC a 8-7 victory over Saint Rose.
Fontaine was 2-for-5 with a homerun, a double, one run scored and three RBIs, while Tranghese was also 2-for-5 with a homerun, a double, one run scored and five RBIs.
Junior
Tim Bailey (Chicopee, Mass.) earned the win after pitching 1.2 innings and only allowing two hits, while junior Daniel Cavezzini (Miller Place, NY) took the loss for the Golden Knights after giving up one run on one hit in 0.2 innings pitched.
The Yellow Jackets will travel to Umass Lowell on Saturday afternoon for a 12 p.m. NE-10 doubleheader contest.
