Men's Basketball Tops Pace, Locks Up Second Seed in NE-10 Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's basketball team closed the 2010-11 regular season with an 81-69 victory over Pace University Wednesday night at Butova Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets' win combined with Stonehill's loss to Bentley gives AIC the No. 2 seed in the Northeast-10 Championship Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets (20-7, 16-6 NE-10) have a first round bye and will host the winner of the first round game between seventh-seeded Adelphi University and 10th-seeded Southern Connecticut State University Monday night, February 28, at 1 p.m. The Setters (11-16, 7-15 NE-10) did not qualify for the NE-10 tournament.

AIC had a balanced attack in the game with six players scored eight points or more. Senior guard Allen Aragbaye (Corona, Calif.) scored 15 points with six assists and four rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets, while junior forward Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) tallied a double-double with 11 points and 16 boards. He also dished out seven assists.

Senior forward Denzel Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) had eight points with eight boards, while junior guard Adrian Hynes-Guery (Montreal, Que.) netted nine points with boards and three assists. Sophomore guard Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) and freshman forward David Campbell (Boston, Mass.) added 12 and eight points, respectively, off the bench.

Sophomore forward Keon Williams (Hackensack, N.J.) registered game-high totals of 21 points and 18 boards to lead Pace, while junior guard Adrian Mills (Woodbridge, Va.) added 17 points four assists and three steals. Freshman guard Denzel Primus-Devonish (Riverdale, Md.) also scored in double-figures with 12 points.

AIC opened the game with a 13-0 run over the first four minutes of the game and never looked back to secure the victory. The Yellow Jackets led 40-29 at the half and led by as many as 23 points, 71-48, with 4:33 to go in the game.

AIC shot an impressive 51.6 percent (33-64) from the field and 33.3 percent (6-18) from three, while Pace shot 38.7 percent (29-75) from the floor and 26.7 percent (4-15) from beyond the arc.
