ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision at Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday night in an Atlantic Hockey contest. The Tigers improved to 7-5-2 overall and 6-3-2 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets drop to 3-13-2 overall and 2-8-2 in AHA play.
Sophomore forward Adam Mitchell (Crofton, MD) scored the first goal of the contest at 9:57 in the first period off a pass from senior forward Cameron Burt (Detroit, MI) and sophomore forward Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ont.). The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 just 1:58 into the second period when junior forward Adam Hartley (West Vancouver, B.C.) found the back of the net.
RIT went up 3-0 in the third when Colavecchia buried a shot past junior goaltender
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.). AIC's lone goal was a powerplay scored by junior forward
Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) at 14:53 in the third period. Senior forward
Nielsson Arcibal (San Diego, Calif.) and junior defenseman
Jeff Ceccacci (Placentia, Calif.) earned the assists on Pleskach's goal.
The Tigers outshot AIC 42-28.
Senior goaltender Shane Madolora (Salinas, C) made 27 saves to earn the victory in net for RIT, while Meisner stopped 39 in the loss.
The weekend series will continues between the two teams tomorrow night for a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey contest.
