Ice Hockey Drop's Weekend Series at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision against Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday night to close out the weekend series. The Tiger's improved to 8-5-2 overall and 7-3-2 in Atlantic Hockey play, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 3-14-2 overall and 2-9-2 in conference play.

The contest remained scoreless through the first period and most of the second. AIC scored first at 9:41 in the second when freshman forward Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Colo.)found the back of the net off a pass from senior forward Nielsson Arcibal (San Diego, Calif.) and junior forward Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.).

RIT tied the contest 12:34 in the second, and continued to score three more goals in the third period to make it a 4-1 game with a little more than 10 minutes left to play. Sophomore forward Mike Colavecchia (Maple, Ont.) had a two point contest with one goal and one assist, while sophomore defenseman Nolan Descoteaux also had two points with both being assists.

Arcibal earned his third point of the weekend when he buried a shot past senior goaltender Shane Madolora (Salinas, Calif.) at 9:31 in the third. Junior defenseman Jeff Ceccacci (Placentia, Calif.) and Sliwinski earned the assists on Arcibal's goal.

The Tiger's outshot AIC 34-27.

Madolora stopped 25 shots to earn his seventh win of the season, while junior goalie Ben Meinser (Halifax, N.S.) made 30 saves in taking the loss for the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Troy, N.Y. after the holiday break to take on Rensselaer for a non-conference contest on January 10, 2012 for a 7 p.m. contest.
