Men's Ice Hockey Comes Up Short Against Canisius, 2-1

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision against Canisius College on Saturday night in an Atlantic Hockey contest. The Yellow Jackets are now 3-9-2 overall and 2-4-2 in conference play, while the Griffins are 3-6-3 overall and 3-1-2 in the AHA.

Canisius took a 1-0 lead at 10:26 in the first period when sophomore forward Kyle Gibbons (Westlake, Ohio) scored off a dish from classmate Taylor Law and sophomore defenseman Ben Danford (Stillwater, Minn.).

Just 47 seconds into the second period the Griffins took a 2-0 lead when Danford buried a shot past junior goaltender Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.). The Yellow Jackets inched within one at 4:48 in the second when sophomore forward Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, MI.) tipped in a pass from senior forward Nielsson Arcibal (Vista, Calif.). Junior forward Steve Mele also earned an assist on Puskar's goal.

AIC came up short against the Griffins for a 2-1 loss.

Sophomore Tony Capobianco (Mississauga, Ont.) stopped 39 in earning the victory, while Meisner made 32 saves in the loss.

The Yellow Jackets outshot Canisius 40-34.

AIC and Canisius will complete the weekend series tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. Atlantic Contest at the Olympia Ice Center.
