Men's Ice Hockey Battles UConn to 2-2 Draw

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the University of Connecticut rallied for a 2-2 tie in an Atlantic Hockey contest Saturday night at the Olympia Ice Center.

The Yellow Jackets' record now stands at 2-8-1 for the season and 2-3-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the Huskies record now stands at 3-4-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Freshman forward Nick Sandor (Vancouver, B.C.) put AIC in the board after tipping home a feed from junior forward Richard Leitner (Los Alamitos, Calif.) at 17:09 of the first period, and junior forward Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) extended the lead to 2-0 when he stole the puck and broke in all alone for a shorthanded goal 4:53 into the second.

UConn got on the board when sophomore forward Brant Harris (Estevan, Sask.) found the back of the net at 11:38 of the second and freshman forward Cody Sharib (Needham, Mass.) tied the game 5:05 into the third for the 2-2 final.

Junior goalie Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) had 35 saves in net for AIC, while senior goalie Garrett Bartus (St. Charles, Ill.) had 47 saves for the Huskies.

The Yellow Jackets outshot UConn 49-37 in the game and had all three shots on goal in the extra period. Both teams went 0-for-1 on the power play.

AIC will next host Army Friday night in a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey contest.
