Men's Ice Hockey Drops Back End of Series at Michigan Tech, 3-1

Box Score

HOUGHTON, Mich. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped the second of two games at Michigan Tech by a final score of 3-1 Saturday night. The Huskies improved to 2-0-0 for the season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 0-2-0.

The scoring was fast and furious in the first half of the opening period. Senior center Brett Olson (Superior, Wisc.) staked Michigan Tech to a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal 3:56 into the game and junior right wing Adam Pleskach (Beausjour, Man.) answered 31 seconds later with a power play goal to tie the game at one.

The Huskies regained the lead for good just over three minutes later when sophomore right wing Jacob Johnstone (Grand Ledge, Mich.) found the back of the net at the 7:35 mark of the first period. He buried his second shot of the game just 2:35 into the second period for the 3-1 final.

AIC didn't go out quietly however and had numerous scoring opportunities throughout the game, but senior goaltender Josh Robinson (Frankenmuth, Mich.) was up to the challenge as he stopped all but one of the 33 shots on goal he faced to earn his first win of the season. Junior goaltender Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) had 38 saves in taking the loss, dropping his record to 0-2-0 for the season.

The Huskies outshot the Yellow Jackets 41-33, which included a 14-8 edge in the opening frame. AIC was 1-for-7 on the power play, while Michigan Tech was 0-for-8 with the man-advantage after going 3-for-4 the night before.

The Yellow Jackets will next open the Atlantic Hockey portion of their schedule October 15 when they travel to Holy Cross. The puck will drop at 4:05 p.m. at the Hart Center.
