Men's Ice Hockey Comes up Short at Holy Cross, 2-1

WORCESTER, Mass. - The American International College men's ice hockey dropped a 2-1 Atlantic Hockey contest at the College of Holy Cross Saturday afternoon. The Crusaders improved to 1-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 0-3-0 and 0-1-0 in Atlantic Hockey.

AIC took an early 1-0 lead when senior forward Michael Penny (Calgary, Alb.) found the back of the net at 8:23 in the first period off a pass from junior forward Steve Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Jon Puskar (Grosse Ille, Mich.).

Holy Cross tied the contest in the second period at 19:54 when sophomore forward Adam Schmidt (Warrington, Pa.) netted his first goal of the season. Junior defenseman Brendan Baker (Edina, Minn.) and sophomore defensemen Jeffrey Reppucci (Newburyport, Mass.) assisted on Schmidt's goal.

Sophomore forward Shayne Stockton (Rochester, N.Y.) buried his second goal of the season at 9:01 in the third period to give the Crusaders a 2-1 victory over the Yellow Jackets.

Freshman goaltender Matt Ginn (Lindsay, Ont.) made 14 saves between the pipes to earn the win, while junior goalie Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) recorded 36 saves in the loss.

AIC was outshot in the contest 38-15, which included a 23-3 advantage in the second frame.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Clarkson University on Friday night, October 21, 2011 for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
