MANKATO, Minn. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost at Minnesota State University by a score of 5-2 on Saturday night in a non-conference contest to close the weekend series. With the loss the Yellow Jackets record now falls to 4-12-0 on the season, while the win improves the Mavericks record to 10-8-4 on the year.
MSU struck first just 1:25 into the first period when junior forward Justin Jokinen (Carlton, Minn.) found the back of the net. Sophomore forward Eli Zuck (Anchorage, Alaska) and freshman defenseman Danny Heath (Glendale, Ariz.) tallied the assists on Jokinen's goal. Just five minutes later Kurt Davis (Plymouth, Minn.) gave the Mavericks their second goal with assists from Jokinen and Zuck.

Blake Peake (Lethbridge, Alb.) buried a shot past MSU junior goaltender Austin Lee (Bloomington, Minn.). Junior forward
Michael Penny (Calgary, Alb.) and senior defenseman
Mike Little (Enfield, Conn.) earned the assists on Peake's goal. The Mavericks pushed their lead to 3-1 when freshman forward John McInnis (Boston, Mass.) scored with 7.51 left in the first period with assists from senior defenseman Ben Youds (Maple Grove, Minn.) and sophomore defenseman Tyler Elbrecht (Edwardsville, Ill.).
AIC scored the lone goal in the second period at 15:39 when
Jeff Ceccacci scored on the powerplay to make the score 3-2 in favor of MSU. Senior forward
Tom Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman forward
Nick Sandor (Vancouver, B.C.) received the assists on Ceccacci's goal. Freshman forward Chase Grant (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and junior forward Michael Dorr (Roseville, Minn.) each tallied a goal for the Mavericks to make the final 5-2 with MSU earning the victory.
Lee stopped 23 in earning the victory for MSU, while sophomore goaltender
Ben Meisner ((Halifax, N.S.) made 38 saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets
The Mavericks outshot AIC 43-25.
AIC will host Bentley University on January 11th, 2011 for a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey contest.
