WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team finished in a 1-1 OT tie with Bentley University on Tuesday night in a conference contest at Olympia Ice Center. With the tie the Yellow Jackets move to 4-11-1 overall and 4-8-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the tie brings the Falcons record to 5-10-1overall and 4-7-2 in conference play.
After the first two periods being scoreless, senior forward
Tom Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) put AIC on the board with two minutes remaining in the game. Classmates
Richard Leitner (Los Alamistos, Calif.) and
Steve Mele (Bronx, N.Y.) handed out the assists on Mele's goal.
Bentley tied the score at 1-1 just 44 seconds later when senior forward Dustin Cloutier (Berkley, Mich.) buried a shot with assists from junior forward Jamie Nudy (West Chester, Pa.) and freshman forward Brett Gensler (St. Charles, Mo.)
Sophmore goaltender
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) played well with 33 saves for the Yellow Jackets, while junior goalie Kyle Rank turned away 35 shots for the Falcons.
AIC outshot Bentley 36-24, with shots being even at 13 during the second period. Bentley had the 5-2 advantage during overtime.
AIC will host Niagara University on January 14th & 15th, 2011 for a 7:05 p.m. Atlantic Hockey contest.
