BUFFALO, N.Y. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-4 decision with Canisius College on Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic Hockey contest. The Yellow Jackets drop to 4-14-1 overall and 4-11-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the win improves the Griffins record to 7-11-5 overall and 6-6-4 in conference play.
AIC got out to an early 1-0 led when sophomore forward
Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) found the back of the net 3:08 into the first on a powerplay. Freshman forward
Blake Peake (Lethbridge, Alb.) and sophomore forward
Richard Leitner (Los Alamistos, Calif.) dished Pleskach the puck for the assists.
Canisius then added three goals to make it a 3-1 game in favor of the Griffins. Senior forward Cory Conacher (Burlington, Ontario) scored twice 8:14 into the first and again in the second at 2:37 during a powerplay, while classmate Vincent Scarsella (Lackawanna, N.Y.) added Canisius' third goal.
Freshman forward
Jon Puskar (Grosse Ile, Mich.) buried a shot past the Griffs junior goalie Dan Morrison (London, Ontario) 15:05 into the second period. Junior forward
Michael Penny (Calgary, Alb.) scored the Yellow Jackets last two goals in the third. Canisius posted three goals in the third to make the score 6-4 for the final.
Sophomore goaltender
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) made 29 saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets, while Morrison stopped 18 in the victory for the Griffins.
AIC outshot Canisius 33-24.
AIC will finish the series against the Griffins on January 24th for a 7 p.m. Atlantic Hockey Contest.
