WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision with Niagara University on Saturday night in an Atlantic Hockey contest at Olympia Ice Center. The Yellow Jackets drop to 4-13-1 overall and 4-10-1 in Atlantic Hockey, while the win improves the Purple Eagles record to 13-7-2 overall and 10-5-0 in conference play.
Niagara University got out to an early 2-0 led when senior forward Bryan Haczyk (Nutley, N.J.) found the back of the net twice just 26 seconds and16:45 into the first period. The Purple Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 16:25 into the third period when senior forward Paul Zanette (Nobleton, Ont.) buried a shot.
AIC got on the board with 50 seconds left on the clock when junior forward
Nielsson Arcibal (Vista, Cali.) flicked the puck past freshman goalie Cody Campbell (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Earning the assists on Arcibals goal were classmates
Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) and
Jeff Ceccacci (Placentia, Calif).
Sophomore goaltender
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) made 34 saves in the loss for the Yellow Jackets, while Campbell stopped 30 in the victory for the Falcons.
Niagara outshot AIC 37-31.
AIC will travel to Buffalo, N.Y. to take on Canisius on January 23rd for a 4 p.m. & 24th for a 7 p.m. Atlantic Hockey Contest.
