Field Hockey Drops 5-1 Decision to No. 3 UMass Lowell

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 decision to third-ranked UMass Lowell at Ronald J. Abdow field. The River Hawks improved to 8-0 on the season and improved to 1-0 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.

Senior Katie Enaire (Amesbury, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal 7:12 into the contest to give UMass Lowell the 1-0 lead. Senior Sammy Macy (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored just three minutes later to put the River Hawks ahead 2-0.

Junior Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) scored AIC's only goal 35 minutes into the game to make it 4-1 in favor of UMass Lowell.

Freshman goalie Melanie Hopkins (Harwich, Mass.) recorded the win in goal with one save, while junior Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) stopped 12 in the loss for AIC

The River Hawks held a 21-2 advantage in shots and a 9-0 advantage in penalty corners.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Bentley University on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
