Football Looks for First Victory of 2010 against Stonehill

Setting the Scene - The American International College football team hosts Stonehill College as it searches for its first win of 2010. This marks the Northeast-10 opener for both teams.

About AIC - The Yellow Jackets enter today's game in search of their first win of the season. AIC opened 2010 with a 20-11 loss to C.W. Post at home and dropped a 31-14 decision at NCAA Division I FCS Stony Brook last week. Senior quarterback Rob Parent has completed 33-of-64 passes for 394 yards and three touchdowns this season. Freshman wide receiver Andre Samuels has caught seven passes for 110 yards and two TDs. Sophomore running back Mike Mayo has carried the ball 27 times for 155 yards. Senior linebacker Terrence Holley leads the team with 19 tackles and 2.5 tackles this season and has one interception. Junior defensive back Wausa Onigbanjo is second on the team with 15 tackles and leads the team with 10 solo take downs. Freshman defensive end Justin Tervo has seven tackles and leads the team with two sacks.

About Stonehill - The Skyhawks come into today's contest with a record of 2-0 this season after posting non-conference wins against Curry, 20-14, and Pace, 41-33. Junior quarterback Tim Morrison has completed 31-of-47 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns this season. All three of his TD passes have gone to sophomore wide receiver John Gomes, who has 12 catches for 188 yards this season. Senior running back Eddie Vachon has carried the ball 42 times for 344 yards and four scores, while sophomore running back Jermetrius Troy has carried the ball 20 times for 127 yards and one score. Senior safety Steven Good and sophomore linebacker Jonathan Poth lead the team with 17 tackles each and both have one sack. Sophomore linebacker Jareed Gaines has 11 tackles and leads the squad with four tackles for loss and two sacks.

Last Time They Met AIC scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter as it defeated host Stonehill College, 35-17, September 11, 2009. Senior defensive back Nathaniel Ricks had two interceptions in the game, the second of which he took to the house to cap the scoring in the game. Parent completed 17-of-25 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Davon LeGrier caught five passes for 88 yards, while Kertis Hussey pulled in five passes for 73 yards and a TD.

About the Series - AIC comes into today's meeting with Stonehill with a perfect 13-0 record against the Skyhawks. The two teams first met September 20, 1997, with the Yellow Jackets pulling out a 26-24 win at Stonehill. AIC has won each of the last seven games by at least 14 points.
Northeast-10 Picks AIC Fourth - The Yellow Jackets were picked to finish fourth in the Northeast-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll after receiving 44 points, just four points behind Bentley University for third.

AIC to appear on CBS College Sports - The Yellow Jackets September 23 Northeast-10 contest at Southern Connecticut State University can be seen across the country on CBS College Sports Network, marking the first-ever nationally televised game for the AIC football program. The last time any AIC team appeared on national television was in 2006, when the women's basketball team made a run to the Division II National Championship Game.

Parent Second On Career Passing List - With his 196-yard passing performance last week, senior quarterback Rob Parent moved into second on AIC's all-time passing yardage list. He now has 6,112 career passing yards, moving him ahead of Rick Hebert who passed for 5,990 yards from 1996-99. Tom Guy is the all-time passing leader after throwing for 9,247 from 2000-03.

The Coach - Head coach Art Wilkins is in his 17th season at the helm of the AIC football team. The winningest coach in program history, Wilkins has compiled a career record of 100-67 to date, has guided the team to three league titles (1999, 2000, 2008) and led the Yellow Jackets to the NCAAs for the first time in 2008. He registered the 100th win of his collegiate career as the Yellow Jackets posted a 41-13 win over Merrimack College October 24, 2009.

Home Sweet Home - AIC has been tough to beat at home since the start of the 2004 season, posting a record of 22-7 over the previous six years.
