Box Score
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward
Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn.) scored 5:23 into overtime to give the American International College field hockey team a 2-1 win at Assumption College in the Northeast-10 opener for both teams. The Yellow Jackets improved to 2-1 for the season, while the Greyhounds fell to 0-4.
The game was scoreless until sophomore back/midfielder Brit Allen (Lincoln, R.I.) deflected a shot from junior midfielder Meagan Dow (West Bridgewater, Mass.) into the cage in the 30th-minute, but that lead didn't last long as sophomore forward
Kristen Angeletti (Wallingford, Conn.) answered with 1:48 to go in the opening half off a feed from senior forward/midfielder
Rhonwen Peters (Aquashicola, Pa.).
Neither team managed to score in the second frame to send the game into overtime, setting the stage for McLean's game-winner.
Junior goalie
Kim Steiner (Little Falls, N.Y.) recorded seven saves, one of which was in overtime, to earn the decision in goal, while senior goalie Danielle Luongo (Northboro, Mass.) notched four saves in taking the loss.
Assumption outshot AIC 11-7 in the game, while the Yellow Jackets had a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
AIC will next travel to Merrimack College September 18 for an 11 a.m. non-conference contest.
