Box Score
Albany, N.Y. – The American International College baseball team snapped a 13-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory at the College of Saint Rose Wednesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 contest. Junior third baseman
Dan Mooney (Bennington, Vt.) went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the Yellow Jackets.
AIC improved to 7-28 for the season and 4-20 in the NE-10, while the Golden Knights dropped to 14-29 overall and 8-16 in conference play.
Saint Rose got on the board in the bottom of the fifth when freshman left fielder Scott Hladik (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) scored on junior center fielder Garret Keenan's (Massapequa, N.Y.) sac-fly to right, but that lead didn't last long as Mooney singled to center field to drive in junior right fielder
Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) in the top of the sixth.
The score remained tied at one until AIC erupted for four runs in the top of the eighth. Senior left fielder
Dan Bassani (Naples, Fla.) gave the Yellow Jackets the lead with a sac-fly to left that scored Fontaine and Mooney followed with an RBI-single to right that plated junior catcher
Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) to give AIC a 3-1 lead.
Sophomore designated hitter
Brad Brothers (Palmer, Mass.), who went 2-for-3 at the dish, then stepped to the plate with runners on second and third and two outs and doubled to right-center, driving in Mooney and sophomore first baseman
Julian Concepcion (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) with what proved to be the game winning runs.
The Golden Knights got two runs back in the bottom of the frame, but were not able to come all the way back as the Yellow Jackets held on for the win.
Freshman starter
Matt Lee (Stratford, Conn.) earned the decision after giving up two runs on eight hits in seven and one-third innings, while junior reliever
Sean Stevenson (Holyoke, Mass.) earned the save after getting the final five outs of the game. Freshman Jordan Zareski (Speigletown, N.Y.) took the loss after allowing four runs, three earned, in two-third innings of relief.
The Yellow Jackets will close out the 2010 season Saturday when they host a Northeast-10 doubleheader against UMass Lowell at noon at AIC Park.
