Yellow Jackets Stifled by Saint Rose

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College baseball team lost Tuesday afternoon to the College of Saint Rose by a score of 7-0. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-28 this season and to 3-20 in the Northeast-10, while the Golden Knights improve to 14-28 overall and to 8-15 in the conference.

Junior centerfielder Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) went 2-4 on the day for AIC, while junior catcher Anthony Arrichiello (Yonkers, N.Y.) went 1-4. Senior leftfielder Dan Bassani (Naples, Fla.) went 1-3 at the plate, while junior third-baseman Dan Mooney (Bennington, Vt.) went 1-2.

Saint Rose scored three-runs in the second off a base-clearing double, two-runs in the fourth, and then added two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth for the 7-0 win. Sophomore infielder Nick Alexandrovich (Commack, N.Y.) led the Golden Knights, going 2-4 at the plate with three RBI and a run scored. Classmate Michael Carbone (Montreal, Que.) went 2-3 on the day with two-runs scored.

Junior starting pitcher Zach Bunszell (Medford, Mass.) went all nine-innings in the loss for the Yellow Jackets. He allowed seven runs, five earned, on nine hits with two strikeouts. Counterpart, classmate David Batchelder (Troy, N.Y.), pitched nine scoreless innings allowing five hits with 10 K's.

Next up, AIC finishes out the back end of the home-and-home with Saint Rose tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. in Albany, New York. The Yellow Jackets return home on Saturday at 12 p.m. to close out the 2010 regular season against UMass Lowell.
