West Haven, Conn. - The American International College baseball team dropped a 6-3 Northeast-10 contest at the University of New Haven Tuesday afternoon. Junior right fielder
Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with a double, one run scored and two runs driven in for the Yellow Jackets.
The game was scoreless until sophomore right fielder David Wirkus (Orange, Conn.) sent a 2-1 offering over the right center field fence to lead off the bottom of the fifth for the Chargers (25-9, 13-6), giving them a 1-0 lead. it was his first home run of the season.

Nicholas Devine (Springfield, Mass.) answered in the top of the sixth for AIC (6-24, 3-16 NE-10) when he drove in Fontaine with a single to right center. The Yellow Jackets had a chance to take the lead with the bases loaded and two outs, but sophomore first baseman
Julian Concepcion (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) struck out to end the threat.
New Haven regained the lead for good with four consecutive doubles that led the three runs, giving the Chargers a 4-1 advantage.

Mike Tranghese (Springfield, Mass.) and sophomore shortstop
Sean McClelland (Chicopee, Mass.) scored on Fontaine's double to left center to make it a 4-3 contest.
New Haven got both runs back in the bottom half of the frame as sophomore shortstop Ryan Brockett (Guilford, Conn.) doubled down the left field line to drive in junior third baseman Tom Rombilus (Monroe, Conn.) and later scored from third on a wild pitch for the 6-3 final.
Senior starter T.J. Phelan (Patchogue, N.Y.) earned the win on the hill after allowing one run on six hits with seven strikeouts in six innings, improving his record to 3-1 this season. Junior reliever Mitch Rossi (Bristol, Conn.) tossed a scoreless ninth to pick up his 11th save of the season.

Zach Bunszell (Medford, Mass.) fell to 1-4 for the season after giving up four runs on 10 hits in five and one-third innings.
The two teams will meet again Thursday when AIC hosts New Haven at AIC Park at 3:30 p.m.
