Yellow Jackets Skate to 2-2 Tie at Canisius

Buffalo, N.Y. – The American International College men's ice hockey team skated to a 2-2 (OT) tie with the Canisius Golden Griffins on Saturday afternoon. With the tie the Yellow Jackets move to 5-21-3 on the season and are 5-17-3 in the AHA, while the Golden Griffins record is now 14-12-5 overall and 12-9-4 in the conference. Freshman forward #Richard Leitner# (Los Alamistos, Calif.) netted to goals to propel AIC.

After a scoreless first period, sophomore forward Dave Kostuch (Richmond Hill, Ont.) put Canisius on the board with a goal 6:29 into the second. Forwards, sophomore Scott Moser (Tonawanda, N.Y.) and senior Josh Heidinger (Buffalo, N.Y.) handed out the assists on the goal.

The Yellow Jackets tied the score at 1-1 1:35 into the third when Leitner buried his first goal of the evening with an assist from senior forward #Chris Campanale# (Chester Springs, Pa.). AIC went up 2-1 just three-minutes later when Leitner found the back of the net for the second time with assists from senior forward #Josh Froese# (Winkler, Man.) and Campanale. AIC held their lead until the 13th-minute when Kostuch tied the score at 2-2 with his second goal of the night with assists from Heidinger and Moser.

Freshman netminder #Ben Meisner# (Halifax, N.S.) played exceptionally well with 42 saves for the Yellow Jackets, while counterpart, sophomore Dan Morrison (London, Ont.) turned away 36 shots for the Golden Griffins.

AIC was outshot 44-38 on the evening, but held a 20-11 advantage in the second period. Shots were 1-1 in overtime and both teams were 0-2 on the power-play.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets finish out the two game series with Canisius in Buffalo, N.Y. tomorrow evening at 4:05 p.m.
