NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior forward
Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) scored 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the American International College men's basketball team to a 82-73 Northeast-10 victory at Southern Connecticut State University Sunday afternoon. He also became the 29th 1,000-point scorer in program history.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Owls fell to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
Wallace was 7-of-11 from the field and 11-of-15 from the free throw line in the game. He also added three steals and three blocked shots. He entered the game needing 11 points to reach the scoring milestone and got there in the first half with a made free throw. Wallace now has 1,015 career points.
Sophomore guard
Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) scored 16 points and dished out five assists coming off the bench, while senior guard
Byron Richards (Adelphia, Md.) added 12 points on a 4-for-6 performance from three.
Junior forward Kieran Ramsey (North Hollywood, Calif.) and sophomore forward Trevon Hamlet (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 14 points each while grabbing eight and six rebounds, respectively, to lead SCSU. Freshman guard/forward Greg Langston (Stratford, Conn.) added 10 points.
The Yellow Jackets shot 48 percent (25-52) from the field and were 26-for-39 at the free throw line, while the Owls shot 39 percent (30-77) from the floor and were 8-for-10 at the line. AIC was whistled for just 13 fouls in the game, which Southern Connecticut was called for a foul 24 times.
AIC will next host Assumption College Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
