SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior forward
Isiah Wallace (Springfield, Mass.) scored a team-leading 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field with nine rebounds and four assists to lead the American International College men's basketball team to a 75-64 non-conference win over Bloomfield College Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 3-0 for the season, marking the programs 3-0 start since winning three straight to start the 2000-01 season, while the Deacons record fell to 2-2 for the year.
Senior guard
Allen Aragbaye (Corona, Calif.) netted 15 points and grabbed three boards, while sophomore guard
Ricky Hudson (Sewell, N.J.) added 14 points with six boards and three assists off the bench. Senior forward
Denzel Jackson (Philadelphia, Pa.) grabbed a game-high 10 boards.
Senior guard Gage Daye (Newark, N.J.) scored a game-high 27 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead Bloomfield. Junior forward Matt Wafula (Harlem, N.Y.) was the team's next-highest scorer with eight points.
AIC led by nine after Hudson drained back-to-back threes that opened a 26-17 lead with 8:08 to go in the first half, but the Deacons were able to chip away at that advantage and only trailed by three, 32-29, at the break.
The lead changes hands several times in the opening 10 minutes of the second half before the Yellow Jackets used a 7-2 push to take the lead for good at 51-46 with 8:30 to go in the game. AIC pulled away at the free throw line in the closing minutes for the 75-64 final.
The Yellow Jackets shot 45.2-percent (28-62) from the field and 40-percent (8-20) from three while holding Bloomfield to 33.8 percent (24-71) from the floor. The Deacons also shot 40-percent (6-15) from three.
AIC will next take on Le Moyne College Monday at the 2010 Hall of Fame Tip-Off at the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield. The Northeast-10 contest will get underway at 6 p.m.
