Springfield, Mass. – The American International College baseball team took two out of three against Northeast-10 opponent Saint Anselm with a 5-1 win at AIC Park Sunday afternoon. Senior first baseman #
Kevin Farrell# (Wilbraham, Mass.) powered the Yellow Jackets offense with his seventh home run of the season. AIC improved to 8-28 overall and 6-18 in the NE-10, while the Hawks dropped to 15-27 overall and 10-16 in conference play.
In the bottom of the first Farrell came to bat with two on and nobody out. He crushed 1-1 pitch over the wall in right field just inside the foul pole. Farrell completed the day going 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored.
Sophomore #Zach Bunzsell# (Medford, Mass.) earned his first win of the season after allowing one run on five hits in eight innings of work. Freshman #
Geoff McCowat# (Sterling, Va.) came in relief for Bunszell in the ninth with runners on second and third. He worked quickly and got three outs, including 2 Ks, to earn the save and nail down the Yellow Jacket win.
Junior Myke Fortier (Andover, Mass.) pitched 4.1 innings and gave up five runs on four hits in the loss.
AIC returns to action Tuesday as it travels to Assumption for a 3:30 p.m. first pitch.
