Colorado Springs, Colo. - The American International College men's ice hockey team dropped a 6-2 Atlantic Hockey decision at the U.S. Air Force Academy Saturday night at the Cadet Ice Center. The Falcons improved to 8-5-3 overall and 8-1-3 in the AHA, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 2-12-1 overall and 2-10-1 in conference play.
Junior Derrick Burnett (Corona, Calif.) gave Air Force a 1-0 lead just 1:02 into the game and classmate Jacques Lamoureax (Grand Forks, N.D.) extended it to a 2-0 game with 5:43 to go in the first period. Junior Blake Page (San Clemente, Calif.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 3:16 into the second period.
The Falcons led 4-0 when junior Sean Bertsch (Woodland, Park, Colo.) scored midway through the second frame before AIC got on the board on junior
Steve McLeod's (Atikokan, Ont.) goal with 3:09 remaining in the second period. Bertsch added his second goal of the game 44 seconds in the third period and senior Brandon Johnson (Duluth, Minn.) gave the Falcons a 6-1 lead 7:30 into the final period.
Freshman
Adam Pleskach (Beausejour, Man.) capped the scoring with his team-leading eighth goal of the season with five minutes left in the game.
Senior Andrew Volkening (Genoa, Ill.) recorded 14 saves in 48:35 to earn the decision in goal, while freshman David Bosner (Chesterfield, Mo.) made six saves in 11:45. Freshman
Ben Meisner (Halifax, N.S.) stopped 31 shots in taking the loss for AIC.
Air Force outshot the Yellow Jackets 37-22 in the game and was 1-for-5 on the power play. AIC was 0-for-3 with the man-advantage.
The Yellow Jackets return to action when they travel to Brown University Tuesday for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
