AIC Drops Home and Home Finale with Holy Cross, 5-1

West Springfield, Mass. – The American International College men's ice hockey team lost Saturday night 5-1 to Holy Cross in the weekend home and home finale. With the loss the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-16-1 for the season and to 4-11-0 in Atlantic Hockey play, while the Crusaders improve to 8-11-2 overall and to 7-8-1 in the conference.

Holy Cross struck first as sophomore Mark Znutas (Emeron, N.J.) netted a goal 5:39 into the first period with assists from freshman Gianni Baldassari (Fort Wayne, Ind.) and junior Rob Forshner (Sundre, Alb.). Freshman Luke Miller (Andover, Mass.) put the Crusaders up 2-0 when he found the back of the net just 1:25 later with assists from Forshner and classmate Andrew Cox (Lombardy, Ont.). Cox scored a goal at the 15:40 mark with an assist from Forshner to give Holy Cross a 3-0 lead at the end of the opening period.

Senior #Chad Richardson# (Regina, Sask.) tallied the second periods only goal making the score 3-1 in favor of the Crusaders. Junior #Frankie DeAngelis# (Woodbridge, Ont.) and freshman #Nielsson Arcibal# (Vista, Calif.) dished out the assists on Richardson's power-play goal.

The Crusader's added two more goals late in the third period from sophomore J.P Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) and junior Peter Lorinser (Marquette, Mich.) to cap off a 5-1 victory.

Sophomore #Dan Ramirez# (Rochester, N.Y.) stopped 18 shots in the loss, while junior Ian Dams (Manotick, Ont.) made 26 saves in the win for Holy Cross.

AIC outshot the Crusaders 27-23 on the game and 10-8 in the final period of play.

Next up, the Yellow Jackets travel to the Rochester Institute of Technology for a weekend series beginning on Friday at 7:05 p.m.
