Yellow Jackets Set for Two in Rochester

SETTING THE SCENE: This weekend's series in between the host Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers and the visiting Yellow Jackets of American International College.

ABOUT AIC: The Yellow Jackets come into this weekend's series with a record of 4-16-1 overall and 4-11-0 in the Atlantic Hockey Association after losing both ends of last weekend's home-and-home with Holy Cross. In the first game on Friday, AIC lost 5-1 at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. The Crusaders took a 2-0 lead into the second period after receiving goals from sophomore Everett Sheen and junior Rob Forshner. Holy Cross saw its lead grow to 4-0 as Forshner tallied his second goal of the night and junior Brodie Sheahan tallied his seventh goal of the season. The Yellow Jackets got on the board late in the second period when freshman Nielsson Arcibal found the back of the net with assists from senior Chad Richardson and classmate Luciano Primiani. Sophomore Jordan Cyr added a goal in the third period to cap off the Crusaders victory. Sophomore goaltender Dan Ramirez made 23 stops on the evening. In the back end of the home-and-home, AIC lost 5-1. Holy Cross, again, jumped out to an early lead going up 3-0 at the end of the first period. Sophomore Mark Znutas, and freshmen Luke Miller and Andrew Cox each tallied goals in the first period for the Crusaders. Senior Chad Richardson put the Yellow Jackets on the score board when he found the back of the net midway through the second period. Junior Frankie DeAngelis and Arcibal handed out the assists on Richardson's goal. Holy Cross added two goals in the third period from sophomore J.P. Martignetti and junior Peter Lorinser to cap off their victory. Ramirez stopped 18 shots on the night.

Weekly Honors: Ricahrdson and Arcibal were named to the AHA Honor Roll for their performance in the home-and-home with Holy Cross. Richardson recorded a goal and dished out an assist in the weekend series with the Crusaders. He handed out an assist in the first game, and then tallied the team's only goal in the finale on Saturday. Arcibal, also tallied a goal and an assist for the Yellow Jackets. He netted a goal in the second period of AIC first game with Holy Cross, and then dished out an assist in the back end of the home and home.

ABOUT RIT: The Tigers enter this weekend's series with a record of 12-9-1 for the season and are 11-4-1 in Atlantic Hockey play this season after sweeping Connecticut in last weekend's series. In the first game, RIT tallied a 5-3 victory. The Huskies struck first as freshman Pat McAuley found the back of the net just 2:31 into the first period. Senior Justin Hofstetter tied the game 10-mintues later for RIT when he tallied his fourth goal of the season with assists from classmate Bobby Raymond and junior Matt Crowell. After a scoreless second period the two teams combined to score six times in the final period of play. The Tigers struck first as freshman Cameron Burt netted his fifth goal of the season, but the lead did not last long as sophomore Andrew Olson found the back of the net for the Huskies to tie the game at 2-2. RIT broke the tie once again, this time scoring twice to go up 4-2, Crowell and Raymond tallied goals just over one minute apart. Sophomore Chris Waterstradt netted a goal for Connecticut making the game 4-3 in an attempt to spark the comeback, but the Tigers were too much as senior Brennan Sarazin capped off the 5-3 victory when he scored at the 18:45 mark. Junior Jared DeMichiel made 23 saves for RIT in the victory. In the second game, the Tigers completed the sweep by recording a 7-4 victory. RIT struck first as sophomore Mike Janda found the back of the net at the 7:17 mark of the opening period. The Huskies tied the game at 1-1 when senior Sean Erickson tallied his third goal of the season. The Tigers then rallied off three goals in a row as Crowell, junior Anton Kharin, and freshman Scott Knowles each tallied goals. Connecticut made the score 4-2 as junior Chris Ochoa added a goal. RIT then took a 6-2 lead to end the second period as Sarazin and Kharin each netted a goal. The Huskies came out firing in the third period scoring two early goals making the score 6-4, but the Tigers increased their lead to 7-4 when Burt found the back of the net to cap off the sweep of the weekend series.

RIT LEADERS: Junior Dan Ringwald lead the Tigers with 21 points on the season including two goals and 19 assists, while senior Jesse Newman is second on the team in scoring with six goals and 13 assists for 19 points. Sarazin and freshman Tyler Brenner are tied in third with 18 points each with 10 goals and eight assists and seven goals and 11 assists respectively.

AIC LEADERS: Arcibal leads the team in scoring with three goals and seven assists for 10 points on the year. Richardson (5g, 4a), junior Chris Campanale (3g, 6a.), and sophomores Tom Mele (7g, 2a) and Steve McLeod (3g, 6a) are all tied in second with nine points. Freshman Michael Penny is sixth with eight points with five goals and three assists.

THE LAST TIME THEY MET: The two schools split a weekend series in Rochester February 1-2, 2008. The Yellow Jackets recorded a 5-2 victory in the first game, while the Tigers tallied a 5-2 victory on the back end of the series.

SERIES WITH RIT: RIT leads the overall series with AIC a record of 10-2-1, while the two schools went 2-2 playing each other last season.

NEXT UP: The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Bentley for a conference match-up starting at 7:05 p.m.
