Balanced Attack Leads AIC Past New Haven, 63-48

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The American International College men's basketball team outscored the University of New Haven 31-15 in the second half in recording a 63-48 victory in the first-ever conference meeting between the two teams Saturday afternoon at Butova Gymnasium. The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-6 overall and 6-5 in the Northeast-10, while the Chargers dropped to 6-9 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Freshman guard #Isiah Wallace# (Springfield, Mass.) led AIC with 14 points and grabbed three rebounds and sophomore guard #Sesoo Ikpah# (Williamstown, N.J.) netted 12 points to go with six boards. Senior forward #Lucius Millinder# (Belleville, N.J.) added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Senior forward #Colson Senat# (Montreal, Que.) and junior forward #Aikeem Vanderhorst# (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added nine points each and had respective totals of six and eight rebounds. Freshman guard #Adrian Hynes-Guery# (Montreal, Que.) scored eight points with five rebounds.

Junior forward Cassius Chaney (Old Saybrook, Conn.) scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down eight boards to lead New Haven. Sophomore guard/forward Robert Jamerson (Forestville, Md.) notched totals of 11 points and five boards and senior guard D.J. Sackmann (Pequannock, N.J.) netted 10 points.

The Chargers held a 33-32 lead after a closely contested first half and remained close for the 10 minutes of the second period. The Yellow Jackets trailed by three, 42-39, before closing the game with a 24-6 run over the final 11:02 of the contest to secure the win.

AIC shot 43.1 percent (22-51) from the field and 31.3 percent (5-16) from downtown, while New Haven shot just 20.8 percent (5-24) from the field and 11.1 percent (1-9) from long distance in the second half and finished the game at 35.3 percent (18-51) from the floor and 21.4 percent (3-14) from beyond the arc.

The Yellow Jackets return to action Monday when they travel to Merrimack for a 7 p.m. non-conference contest.
