Southern New Hampshire beats AIC 6-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mass - The American International College baseball team lost a Northeast-10 bout to Southern New Hampshire on Thursday afternoon, 6-1. The loss brings the Yellow Jackets overall record to 4-14 and their conference record to 2-5. With the win the Penmen improve to 4-14 overall and 2-8 in the conference. Senior Jeff Rustico (Southington, Conn.) went 2 for 3 at the plate and scored the teams only run.

Southern New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning when sophomore Chris O'Neil (Chelmsford, Mass.) tripled down the right field line scoring junior Jeff Giannino (Beverly, Mass.) from second. The Penmen would not look back as they scored three runs in the fifth and two more in the eight to cap the 6-1 victory. O'Neil would go 1 for 4 at the plate with two RBI's, while Giannino went 3 for 5 with one run scored and one RBI. Sophomore Eric Pelletier (Beverly, Mass.) also went 1 for 4 with two RBI's on the day.

The Yellow Jackets would score their only run in the fourth inning when Dan Fey (Plymouth, Mass.) singled down the left field line scoring Rustico from third. Fey would go 1 for 4 on the day with one RBI.

Sophomore Mike Evens (Seabrook, N.H.) picked up the win for Southern New Hampshire pitching eight and one third innings striking out four and allowing five hits. The win brings his record to 2-4 on the season. For the Yellow Jackets sophomore Nick Noblit (Westfield, Mass.) picked up the loss pitching seven and one third innings fanning four strike outs and allowing five earned runs on nine hits. The loss brings his record to 0-3 on the season.

Next up AIC will travel to Assumption for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
