Yellow Jackets Fall to St. Anslem 11-2

Box Score

Manchester, N.H. - The St. Anselm Hawk's scored 11 runs on 15 hits, earning a decisive 11-2 victory over the American International College baseball team in a Northeast-10 showdown Thursday afternoon at Sullivan park. Freshman Kyle McNiff (Westfield, Mass.) cranked his first collegiate homerun in the loss for the Yellow Jackets. St. Anselm improved to 10-16 overall and 6-9 on the season. AIC falls to 7-16 overall and 5-7 in the conference.

Both McNiff and senior David Dest (Orange, Conn.) earned an RBI in the loss for the Yellow Jackets. Freshman Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) was the starting pitcher for AIC, he went four and a third innings allowing eight runs on seven hits.

Despite the lopsided score, AIC was the first of the two teams to earn a run. In the bottom half of the first inning senior Jeff Rustico (Southington, Conn.) singled with one out and scored after Dest hammered a double into right field.

After holding the Hawks in the first, St. Anselm touched up the freshman starter for four runs on four hits in the second inning.

AIC was unable to answer as St. Anselm touched home another four times in the fifth inning, breaking out to an 8-1 advantage. In the fifth, Fontaine was replaced by freshman John Shivo (Ayer, Mass.) who went one and a third, giving up only one hit and no runs.
St. Anselm grabbed three more scores before AIC countered with a run in the top of the ninth, when McNiff blasted his first collegiate homerun with one out.

Matt Stone tossed seven innings giving up a run on six hits for the Hawk's, before Kyle Lavin came in and tossed two innings, giving up a run on a pair of hits. Freshman John Scanlon (Glastonbury, Conn.) went an inning giving up a run and graduate student Terry Loh (Milford, Conn.) also went an inning giving up a pair of runs in the loss for AIC.

AIC will host St. Rose Saturday afternoon at 12:00 pm.
