David Dest (Orange, Conn.) and
Dan Fey (Plymouth, Mass.) each tallied an RBI, but the American International College baseball squad dropped a 5-2 decision to the Stonehill Skyhawks in a Northeast-10 match-up at AIC Park Saturday afternoon.
Nick Noblit (Westfield, Mass.) got the start for AIC pitching five innings, surrendering four runs on only three hits. Nick Santa got the nod for Stonehill, tossing six innings, giving up two runs on eight hits.
AIC started the scoring off in the first inning when Dest drilled a double, scoring Jay Rustico (Southington, Mass.) who reached by a walk. Stonehill grabbed a 2-1 lead after scoring twice in the third. Both runs came with two outs. Javier Guzman reached first after drawing a walk. Nate Weber followed Guzman with another walk. Guzman touched home after Brenden Shepard smacked a single. Weber came around after consecutive wild pitches.
The Yellow Jackets tied the score in the fourth after Mike Mooney got struck by a pitch and scored after Fey singled him home. For AIC, that was all the scoring on the afternoon.
Stonehill grabbed two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth, as they nabbed a tough Northeast-10 victory 5-2.
Freshman
Dillon Fontaine (Amenia, N.Y.) pitched the final four innings for the Yellow Jackets, allowing only two hits and no runs. Mat Lindenmayer earned the save for Stonehill shutting the door in the final three innings of play.
AIC will square off against the Skyhawks on Monday, this time on the road.
