Rollins Posts 6-4 Win Over AIC

Winter Park, Fla. - Rollins scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning en route to a 6-4 victory over the American International College baseball team at Alfond Stadium Friday. The Tars improved to 19-6-1, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-6 on the year. Junior Kevin Farrell (Wilbraham, Mass.) went 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs for AIC.

AIC trailed 1-0 after one inning when Farrell connected on a two-run homer to plate senior David Dest (Orange, Conn.) and give the Yellow Jackets a 2-1 lead. Rollins answered with a run in the third and the score remained tied at 2-2 until the top of the seventh when senior Jason Rustico (Southington, Conn.) grounded out to second with the bases loaded as junior Dan Fey (Plymouth, Mass.) crossed the plate, giving AIC a 3-2 lead.

Rollins then took control of the game with four runs in the bottom half of the frame. Senior Corey Whiting (Winter Park, Fla.) led off the inning with a triple and scored on Luker's single down the right field line to tie the game and Luker scored three batters later when a errant pitch from sophomore Billy Thompson (Brookfield, Conn.) hit senior Gary Martoccio (Lutz, Fla.) to put Rollins ahead for good.

The Yellow Jackets got one run back in the top of the eighth when Fey singled up the middle to score Farrell from second with two outs, but sophomore Chad Giannuzzi (Windsor Locks, Fla.) got junior Mike Massery (Pittsfield, Mass.) to ground out to third and stranded two runners in the process.

Junior Michael Eppich (Shaker Heights, Ohio) allowed one run in 2.2 innings of relief to record the win and Giannuzzi threw 1.1 scoreless innings to pick-up the save. Sophomore Nick Noblit (Westfield, Mass.) allowed four runs, three earned, in six innings in taking the loss on the hill.

Luker finished 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Whiting went 2 for 5 with a pair of runs scored for Rollins. Fey went 3 for 4 with one run scored and one RBI for AIC.
