Men's Basketball Falls to Pace 82-72

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team dropped its fourth consecutive decision after suffering an 82-72 loss to Pace Tuesday night at Butova Gymnasium. The Setters improved to 12-13 on the season and 11-9 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 10-15 overall and 7-12 in conference play. Sophomore guard Mike Troll (New York, N.Y.) scored 12 points with seven assists for AIC.

The Yellow Jackets trailed 46-35 at halftime and Pace shot 60.6 percent (20-33) from the floor and 44.4 percent (4-9) from beyond the arc. AIC trailed by as many as 15 points 2:54 into the second half, 52-37, before ripping off a 25-8 run over the next seven minutes to take its first lead of the game, 62-60. Troll scored seven of his 12 points during that run and capped it off with a 3-pointer at the 10:43 mark of the period.

The Setters answered with an 8-0 burst just two minutes later to take the lead for good and pulled away down the stretch at the free throw line to complete win their sixth consecutive game over the Yellow Jackets.

Senior guard Ryan Williams (Centreville, Va.) led all scorers with 20 points for Pace and senior forward Desmond Quincy-Jones (Rye, N.Y.) registered a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 12 boards.

Junior guard Vernon Dupree (Wilmington, Del.) led AIC with 16 points, eight rebounds and four assists and sophomore forward Aikeem Vanderhorst (Bay Shore, N,.Y.) fell just three assists short of his first career triple-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds and four helpers.

Pace shot just 37.5 percent (9-24) from the field in the second half, but still finished the game at 50.9 percent (29-57) and connected on 18 of 22 free throw attempts (81.8%). The Yellow Jackets shot 42.9 percent (24-56) from the field for the game while hitting 47.4 percent (9-19) of the their 3-point attempts and 71.4-percent (15-21) of their free throws.

Next up, AIC travels to UMass Lowell Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
