Second Half Surge Leads Saint Rose Past Men's Basketball 86-76

Albany, N.Y. - With the game tied at 49-all 7:23 into the second half, The College of Saint Rose went on a 22-3 to take a 71-52 lead with 6:25 left in the game en route to an 86-76 win over the American International College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon in Albany. The Golden Knights improved to 19-6 on the season and 16-4 in the Notheast-10, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 10-14 overall and 7-12 in conference play. Junior guard Vernon Dupree (Wilmington, Del.) scored a team-best 17 points for AIC.

Saint Rose led by as many as 21 points, 80-59, with 2:03 left in the game before the Yellow Jackets closed the game on a 17-6 run for the 86-76 final.

Sophomore guard Jermaine Clark (Perth Amboy, N.J.) scored a game-high 21 points off the bench for the Golden Knights on 6 of 9 shooting from the field, including a 5 for 7 showing from 3-point range, and was a perfect 4 for 4 from the line.

Senior guard Steve Dagastino (Schenectady, N.Y.) and junior forward Evan Lane (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) both recorded double-doubles; Dagastino scored 14 points with 11 assists and Lane netted 10 points with 12 boards. Senior forward Shanty Robinson (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) and senior guard Will Monica (Great Falls, Va.) added 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Junior forward Colson Senat (Montreal, P.Q.) registered a double-double for AIC with 15 points and 11 rebounds and sophomore forward Aikeem Vanderhorst (Bay Shore, N.Y.) fell just one rebound short of his own double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Sophomore guard Mike Troll (Bronx, N.Y.) and freshman guard Sesoo Ikpah (New York, N.Y.) netted 11 points each.

Saint Rose shot 60 percent (15-25) from the field in the second half and finished the game at 51.9 percent (28-54). The Golden Knights also shot 84 percent (21-25) from the line and 52.9 percent (9-17) from beyond the arc.

The Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent from the floor (14-28) and from 3-point range (6-12) in the first half, but dropped to 43.8 percent (14-32) from the field and 25 percent (3-12) from downtown in the second half. AIC also struggled at the free throw line, going just 11 for 20 in the game.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Pace Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in a Northeast-10 contest.
