Second Half Push Propels Top-Ranked Bentley Past AIC 69-52

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Top-ranked and undefeated Bentley College used a 13-2 run midway through the second half en route to securing a 69-52 win at AIC Wednesday night at Butova Gymnasium. The Falcons improved to 23-0 on the season and 18-0 in the Northeast-10 with their 50th consecutive regular season victory, a streak that started with a 69-57 win at AIC Feb. 21, 2006, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 10-13 overall and 7-11 in conference play. Junior forward Colson Senat (Montreal, P.Q.) led AIC with 17 points and six boards in the loss.

The Yellow Jackets trailed by eight, 21-13, with 7:20 to go in the first half, but closed the period on an 8-2 run and trailed by just two at halftime, 23-21. AIC held Bentley to just 30 percent (9-30) shooting from the floor and 15.8 percent (3-19) from 3-point range.

The Yellow Jackets trailed by five points or less for the first 10 minutes of the second half before Bentley's mid-period run and closed back within 11 at 55-44 with 6:08 left, but the Falcons answered with a 12-5 run over the next four minutes to seal the win.

Bentley junior forward Lew Finnegan (Lexington, Mass.) led all scorers with 24 points on 9 of 15 shooting from the field and a 6 for 11 performance from downtown. Senior forward Nate Fritsch (Durham, N.C.) added 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals and senior guard Yusuf Abdul-Ali (Springfield, Mass.) netted 11 points with seven boards, four assists and three steals.

Junior guard Vernon Dupree (Wilmington, Del.) added 16 points, seven rebounds and three assists for AIC and freshman guard Seso Ikpah (New York, N.Y.) added 11 points. Sophomore forward Aikeem Vanderhorst (Bay Shore, N.Y.) registered a game-high 12 rebounds and tallied eight points.

The Falcons shot 60 percent (18-30) from the floor in the second half and were 7 of 12 from 3-point range, while the Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent (11-22) from the field and were 3 of 7 from downtown. For the game, Bentley outscored AIC 30-12 from downtown.

The Yellow Jackets will look to get back on track Saturday when they travel to Saint Rose for a 3:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
