Men's Basketball Wins at Assumption 70-59

Worcester, Mass. - The American International College men's basketball team recorded its second straight win after defeating Assumption, 70-59, at Laska Gym. The Yellow Jackets improved to 9-11 on the season and 6-9 in the Northeast-10, while the Greyhounds dropped to 16-6 overall and 10-5 in conference play. Junior guard Vernon Dupree (Wilmington, Del.) registered career-highs of 21 points and eight rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Assumption, which was just three spots out of the top-25 in the latest poll conducted by the National Basketball Coaches Association, led 29-24 at halftime and was up 46-41 at the 13:11 mark of the second half when AIC went on a 21-3 run to take control of the game at 62-49 with 1:03 to go in the contest. It was the first game the Yellow Jackets had won all season after trailing at halftime.

Sophomore forward Aikeem Vanderhorst (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added 17 points and eight boards for AIC and junior forward Colson Senat (Montreal, P.Q.) netted 13 points with eight rebounds. Senior guard Jeff Dosado (Montreal, P.Q.) also scored 13 points while dishing out five assists and recording three steals.

Senior forward Corey Diethorn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the Greyhounds with 18 points and five rebounds, while senior forward Greg Twomey (Groton, Mass.) registered a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards.

The Yellow Jackets hit 14 of 26 (53.8%) field goal attempts in the second half and went 12 for 17 (70.6%) at the free throw line, while Assumption was just 11 of 29 (37.9%) from the field and made just five trips to the charity stripe.

AIC will next host Merrimack Saturday in a Northeast-10 contest.
