Holy Cross Downs Ice Hockey 5-3

Box Score

West Springfield, Mass. - Senior captain Bryan Jurynec (Orland Park, Ill.) was one of three Yellow Jackets to score, but the AIC men's hockey team dropped a 5-3 Atlantic Hockey match-up to The College of Holy Cross Tuesday evening in West Springfield. The win improves the Crusaders to 7-8-6 overall and 6-7-3 in the AHA while the loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 5-15-3 overall and 5-11-2 in conference action.

AIC, who defeated Holy Cross just seven days ago, led in the contest 1-0 and out shooting the Crusaders 34-28. Junior Keith Rodger (Parshall, Colo.) scored on the power-play while sophomore Chris Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.) added a goal in the loss.

The Yellow Jackets struck first when Campanale tallied his fourth goal of the season, following up on a David Turco (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.) slap-shot, which was originally blocked by Crusader goalie Adam Roy. Roy turned back 12 first period shot attempts.

Holy Cross scored twice before the first intermission. Joe Brock notched his seventh goal of the season just over 10 minutes into the stanza while Mark Znutas pushed across his fourth goal within five minutes of the Brock score. The Crusaders out shot the Yellow Jackets 13-9 in a first period that saw neither team penalized.

In the second period, it was the Jackets who scored twice, to the Crusaders one score.
Keith Rodger fired a slap-shot from just inside the blue-line that found the back of the net with 30 seconds remaining on an AIC power-play, five minutes into the second. Mark Pavli (Sarnia, Ont.) and Turco both registered assists on the play.

The Crusaders regained the lead when Everett Sheen earned his 12th goal - pushing him to second in the conference - following an array of shots from the Crusaders. The Jackets answered back with less than two minutes to play in the period when Pavli broke in on a breakaway and fed Jurynec who backhanded home the tying goal.

In the third period, Holy Cross scored twice, eventually skating away with a 5-3 victory. Cal St. Denis marched down the rink just under two minutes into the period and scored a goal as a swarm of Crusaders attacked the net. For St. Denis, it was his second goal of the season. Holy Cross added one more score when Dewey Thompson notched his second point of the game, again after a heavy Crusader attack.

Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.) stopped 23 shots in net for AIC while Roy posted a 31 save effort for Holy Cross.

AIC takes the weekend off before hitting the road next Sunday with a showdown against Dartmouth.
