Box Score

Milford, Conn. - Sophomore Josh Froese (Winkler, Man.) earned his first goal of the season and senior Jereme Tendler (Viceroy, Sask.) scored as the American International College ice hockey squad earned a 2-2 tie against Atlantic Hockey foe Sacred Heart Saturday evening. The tie moves AIC to 5-14-3 overall and 5-10-2 in the AHA. For the Pioneers they move to 8-9-3 overall and 8-3-3 in the conference.

It was the second straight night these two teams battled into overtime, with the Pioneers scoring under two minutes into the extra frame last evening, earning the win. Saturday marked the first time since February 26th and March 1st of the 2004-2005 season that AIC played back-to-back overtime contests.

Tendler broke a scoreless tie with 14:09 showing in the second period picking the top-shelf on Pioneer goalie Olivier St. Onge's glove hand with the team on a power-play. Senior defensemen Chris Bolognino (Carol Stream, Ill.) earned an assist on the play.
Sacred Heart Junior Bear Trapp returned the favor two minutes later, scoring a power-play goal after finishing a series of shots from right in front of the net.

With just under 10 minutes showing on the clock, Froese grabbed his first point of the season, scoring a goal after a textbook centering pass from freshman Tom Mele (Bronx, N.Y.). Sophomore Chris Campanale (Chester Springs, Pa.) also registered a point on the score.

After gaining a two-man advantage the Pioneers quickly tied the score again. Nick Johnson finally punched home the third of three consecutive shot attempts on Jacket goalie Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.), tying the score at two each.

The third frame and the extra stanza both went scoreless as the teams finished the game in a 2-2 tie.

Ramirez made 24 saves in net for AIC while St. Onge turned away 28 shots for the Pioneers.
