Yellow Jackets Hold On For 84-80 Victory at Holy Family

Philadelphia, Pa. - The American International College men's basketball team improved to 5-6 on the season after posting an 84-80 win at Holy Family Sunday. The loss dropped the Tigers to 6-5 on the season. The Yellow Jackets have six players score in double figures, led by a season-high 16 points from freshman guard Sesoo Ikpah (Williamstown, N.J.) on 5-5 shooting from the field - including two 3-pointers - and a 4-4 performance at the free throw line.

AIC opened the game with a 24-3 run over the first 7:11 of the game and held a 40-23 advantage with 3:56 left in the first half before Holy Family went on an 11-3 run to end the period down just nine points at 43-34. The Yellow Jackets opened up a 17-point lead at 59-42 at the 11:26 mark of the second half and were up 13 points, , 76-63, after a pair of Ikpah free throws with 1:03 left in the game.

The Tigers kept putting AIC at the free throw line in the final minute and nearly came all the way back as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-8 down the stretch for the 84-80 final.

Senior guard Jeff Dosado (Montreal, P.Q.), junior guard Vernon Dupree (Wilmington, Del.), junior forward Lucius Millinder (Belleville, N.J.) and sophomore forward Ryan Leak (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 12 points each for AIC and sophomore forward Aikeem Vanderhorst (Bay Shore, N.Y.) netted 10 points. Sophomore forward Colson Senat (Montreal, P.Q.) grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds and added six points.

Holy Family was led by senior guard Michael Sturns' (Fort Worth, Texas) game-high 36 points. Senior forward London Houston (Philadelphia, Pa.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards, while senior guards Ryan Lancaster (Egg Harbor, N.J.) and Quincy Marshall (Philadelphia, Pa.) added 14 and 13 points, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets shot 60.0 percent (18-30) from the floor in the first half and shot 54.0 percent (27-50) for the game. AIC also shot 61.5 percent (8-13) from 3-point range and 73.3 percent (22-30) from the free throw line. The Tigers shot just 38.8 percent (26-67) from the field, 36.4 percent (8-22) from 3 and 66.7 percent (20-30) from the line.

AIC will next host New Haven Jan. 2, 2008 at Butova Gymnasium in non-conference contest.
