Chad Richardson (Regina, Sask.) and
Chris Bolognino (Carol Stream, Ill.) each scored on the power-play but the American International College ice hockey team dropped a 4-2 contest to the Air Force Falcons Saturday evening.
Scott Kozlak sped past the blue-line and fired a slap-shot that slipped off of the pad of AIC goalie
Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.) and on to the stick of Air Force forward Blake Page who shot the rebound through the crease for the contests first goal. The goal was scored two minutes into the opening frame. The Falcons scored three times in the first period.
The second goal much like the first was a slap-shot taken by Eric Ehn that bounced off of
Dan Ramirez's blocker and onto Brent Olson's stick. Olson grabbed the rebound and easily fired it to the back of the net for the score. The goal was tallied at the 14:29 marker.
Ramirez turned away nine shots in the first frame while Air Force goalie Andrew Volkening stopped six shots in net for the Falcons.
Air Force scored the period's final goal short-handed. Owen Kelly stole a pass from the AIC defense and earned a breakaway that he capitalized on by squeezing a shot through Ramirez's five-hole, making the score 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board midway through the third period when Richardson fired home a one-timer slap-shot after Bolognino slipped a pass over to Richardson from the slot.
Air Force struck back five minutes later when Matt Charbonneau blasted a power-play slap-shot past Ramirez after the Falcons peppered him with shots.
The Yellow Jackets notched one more score before the end of the game. Richardson returned the favor to Bolognino at the 10:55 marker when he slide a past to Bolognino, who ripped a slap-shot past Volkening, for the score.
AIC couldn't muster a comeback, as they eventually fell 4-2. Ramirez turned away 29 shots for AIC while Volkening stopped 18 for the Falcons.
With the win, the Falcons improved to 9-4-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the AHA. The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 2-8-2 overall and 2-6-2 in the conference.
AIC will host Atlantic Hockey foe UConn Tuesday evening at 7:05 pm.
