Box Score

West Springfield, Mass. - Chad Richardson recorded three points as the American International College ice hockey team posted a 4-1 victory over the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers in an Atlantic Hockey showdown Friday evening. The win improves the Yellow Jackets to 4-8-2 overall and 4-6-1 in the AHA while the Tigers drop to 5-6-3 overall and 4-4-3 in the conference.

For AIC, it was the first ever win over RIT who had held an 8-0-1 record over the Jackets prior to the contest.

AIC jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Jereme Tendler (Viceroy, Sask.) slammed the puck to the back of the net after collecting a pass from Mike McMillan (Sault Ste. Mare, Ont.) from the point on the power-play with less than two minutes remaining in the first period. Tendler was positioned to the right of the goal and was the beneficiary of superb puck movement on the man advantage. Chad Richardson (Regina, Sask.) also earned an assist on the contest's first score.

A little over two minutes into the second frame Mark Pavli (Sarnia, Ont.) pulled up by the right circle and blasted a slap-shot that redirected off of Richardson and up over the shoulder of Tigers goalie Louis Menard for the Jackets second goal. Bryan Jurynec (Orland Park, Ill.) was also credited with an assist on the score.

AIC goalie Dan Ramirez (Rochester, N.Y.) made a pair of notable saves with three minutes on the clock in the second stanza. He stoned Tigers forward Simon Lambert on back-to-back shots from the slot with no defensive pressure. Ramirez turned back 11 shots through the first two periods.

The Yellow Jackets headed into the third period with a 2-0 advantage and immediately grabbed a third goal 39 seconds into the final stanza when Pavli grabbed the puck after it fell lose following a Richardson slap-shot and poked it into the net.

RIT got on the board at the 9:45 point on the power-play when Matt Crowell tossed home a rebound following a Matt Smith stinger from the right-slot.

The Yellow Jackets out shot the Tigers 27-26, while killing off six of RIT's seven power-play opportunities.

Tendler snuck a pass over to Steve McLeod (Atikokan, Ont.) on the breakaway, who flipped home a one-timer for the game's final score with under four minutes showing on the clock.

Ramirez earned his fourth win of the year stopping 25 shots while Menard stopped 23 shot attempts in net for the Tigers.

The two squads will conclude their weekend series tomorrow evening at the Olympia Ice Center. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:05 pm.
