Bridgeport, Conn. – The American Internationals College men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season and evened its record at 1-1 after defeating host Bridgeport Sunday afternoon at the Purple Knight Classic. Three Yellow Jackets scored in double figures, led by sophomore forward #Ryan Leak#'s (Brooklyn, N.Y.) 17-point effort.
Junior forwards #Lucius Millinder# (Belleville, N.J.) and #Colson Senat #(Montreal, P.Q.) netted respective scoring totals of 16 and 11 points. Leak and Millinder led AIC with seven rebounds each. Senior guard #Jeff Dosado# (Montreal, P.Q.) added eight points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Senior center Lex James (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior guard/forward Teairez Stennis (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 14 points each for Bridgeport (1-1), while senior guard T-Ron Christy (Stratford, Conn.) and junior guard Cornell Littlejohn (Oakland, Calif.) added eight points apiece. James also led the team with eight boards.
AIC trailed 24-18 with six minutes to go in the first half, but ended the period with a 12-0 run to take a 30-24 lead into the locker room at halftime. The two teams traded the lead several times in early in the second half and The Purple Knights led 46-45 with 9:49 into the period before AIC went on a 13-2 run to take a 56-48 lead with 7:27 left in the game.
Bridgeport pulled within four points at 60-56 with 53 seconds left in the contest, but was forced to foul and AIC converted seven of its eight free throws in the last minute of play for the 67-56 final.
The Yellow Jackets return to action Tuesday when they travel to Pace Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. Northeast-10 contest.
