Field Hockey Blanked at Assumption

Worcester, Mass. - The American International College field hockey team fell to 3-14 on the season and 2-13 in Northeast-10 play after falling at Assumption, 3-0 Thursday night. The Greyhounds improved to 7-11 overall and 5-10 in conference play. Freshman keeper Nicole Spence (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) made eight saves, six of which came in the first half, for the Yellow Jackets.

Sophomore forward Sarah Ranieri (Bellingham, Mass.) scored all three goals for Assumption. Her first tally came 9:40 into the match off a feed from senior midfielder Jessica Keefe (Mansfield, Mass.) and her second came with 31 seconds remaining in the first half off her own rebound. Ranieri's third marker was at 41:17 as she sent a pass from junior forward Lauren Mooney (Canton, Mass.) off Spence's right shoulder and into the cage.

Freshman keeper Danielle Luongo (Northboro, Mass.) made two saves in the first half to record the win, while junior goalie Jacque DuLong (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped all four shots on goal in the second half.

Assumption outshot AIC 9-4 in the first half and 13-9 in the match, while the Yellow Jackets held a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners.

AIC will wrap-up the 2007 season Sunday against Saint Anselm. The match will get under way at Springfield College's Stagg Field at 3 p.m.
